Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part V-B – Militia-ization: The Council for National Policy and the Christian Patriot Militia

Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part V-B – Militia-ization: The Council for National Policy and the Christian Patriot Militia

The Posse Comitatus eventually transformed into the Christian Patriot militia.  At least three organizations linked to the Council for National Policy—the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, and the Constitution Party—played instrumental roles. Posse Comitatus drew its principal support from radical anti-tax protesters, absolutist Second Amendment proponents, and survivalists. Similarly, the U.S. Taxpayers Party [...]

Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part V-A – Posse Comitatus and the Tea Party Movement

Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part V-A – Posse Comitatus and the Tea Party Movement

The militia-ization of the Tea Party movement encompasses the following processes and behaviors: the transmission of the underlying ideas of Posse Comitatus through the Patriot militia to the Tea Party movement; in this regard Ron Paul’s association with the militia movement is important; the behavioral expression of Posse Comitatus’ ideology in the current Tea Party [...]

Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part IV-J – The Christian Nationalists’ Agenda and the Tea Party Movement

Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part IV-J – The Christian Nationalists’ Agenda and the Tea Party Movement

The Koch-planned movement has from the start been plugged into the Christian nationalist’s Council for National Policy’s Conservative Action Project.  There is some dispute as to whether or not the Tea Party movement will include “culture war” issues in their agenda.  I will show that there is no real obstacle to making these “culture war” [...]

The Death of Discourse?

The Death of Discourse?

I drove past a Tea Party protest in downtown Fort Lauderdale just a few weeks prior to the passing of Obama’s health care reform bill. If I had more time, I would have stopped, crossed the picket line and engaged in a dialogue with the protesters.  It’s really important to find common ground, to listen, [...]

Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part IIIA – Koch’s Outside Game

Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part IIIA – Koch’s Outside Game

The simplest explanation for the start of the Tea Party movement in mid-February 2009 is that when Rick Santelli complained about paying for “losers” mortgages and suggested a Tea Party in Chicago in July, Eric Odom, Top Conservatives on Twitter, Smart Girl Politics, and the American Spectator, exhibited entrepreneurial zeal in promoting Tea Party protests [...]

Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part II — It Was Never About Wall Street

Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part II — It Was Never About Wall Street

One of the most prominent myths about the origins of the Tea Party movement is that it was motivated by anger at the bailouts of Wall Street firms undertaken by the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department under President Bush.  This is simply not the case. In this section I want to cover three topics. [...]

Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part I – Introduction

Origins of the Tea Party Movement: Part I – Introduction

In a series of articles I will argue the following: two Tea Party movements were planned separately, only one had the objective of moving the Republican Party to the right and making it more fiscally conservative as the Republican Party attempted to re-brand and distinguish itself from the profligate spending of the Bush administration.

Obama’s Afghanistan…Part 1

Obama’s Afghanistan…Part 1

While the initial invasion of Afghanistan went remarkably smoothly (only about 2,000 US Special Forces troops were used), this was largely because much of the actual fighting was accomplished by the Afghans themselves (of the ‘Northern Alliance’) with US air cover/interdiction and close coordination/communication via the US SF troops.

Opinion On The Suicide Note of Joseph Stack

Opinion On The Suicide Note of Joseph Stack

First, my best wishes for a recovery to the injured IRS workers. Condolences, if necessary, to the family of the missing worker. My comments are not a justification or an excuse for Joseph Stack’s actions. It is an attempt at understanding because his suicide note is complex. His last paragraphs on going out and attacking the [...]

The Current Approach to the Afghanistan War

The Current Approach to the Afghanistan War

Up until the past year, we have been essentially doing nothing but a ‘holding’ program in Afghanistan while the focus was on Iraq. This essentially was a combination of the old ‘fire-base’ concept from Vietnam (which didn’t work there either!), and very small-scale ‘search and destroy’ missions by special forces backed up by enormous airpower.
